10kW Aerona³ air source heat pump installed at Brecon Barn Conversion

A barn conversion in Brecon has had a renewable heating system installed, featuring an Aerona³ air source heat pump and a QR hot water cylinder, a system which was designed by Grant UK and installed by a G1 Installer.

The Project
Property: domestic barn
Heat source: air source heat pump
Products installed: Aerona³ 10kW air source heat pump, QR 250ltr pre-plumbed cylinder and Grant combined low loss header/volumiser

When the owners of a barn conversion were researching the heating solutions available for their property, they turned to local G1 Installers, Lewis Gould Plumbing & Heating based in Powys. Having commenced the renovation to transform this barn building into the ideal home, the homeowners needed a complete heating system to be designed, specified and installed. Working closely with Grant UK’s teams, Lewis Gould provided the homeowners with a renewable solution for their heating and hot water requirements and the installation got underway in the summer 2022.

Complete Grant heating system fulfilled the home’s requirements
The barn’s footprint totals 80m² with the finished property comprising of three bedrooms, a bathroom and two shower rooms, and a spacious kitchen and living area. Following a site survey that was carried out by Stuart Thompson, Grant UK’s Area Sales Manager for Wales, the system could then be designed and this stage was completed by Grant UK’s in-house Design and Specification Team. Working closely with Lewis Gould, they specified a system that would fulfill the demands of the household which included an air source heat pump, low loss header, hot water cylinder, underfloor heating and radiators.

Grant’s 10kW Aerona³ air source heat pump was specified. This single fan heat pump unit is compact in size, being under 900mm in height and 405mm in depth. The 10kW Aerona³ heat pump is also one of Grant UK’s Connect & Notify approved models which means it can be installed and connected to the Grid without prior approval from the DNO. This feature can simplify and speed up the installation process and the DNO can then be notified after commissioning.

Alongside the heat pump, a Quick Recovery cylinder was also installed to provide the hot water storage solution for the property. A 250ltr pre-plumbed cylinder model was fitted which features a single internal coil which efficiently transfers heat into the water within the cylinder.

Customer support from Grant UK
Throughout the installation process, from the site survey and system specification through to the installation, set-up and commissioning of the air source heat pump and system, Grant UK helped Lewis Gould and his customer. “From start to finish, we had great support from Stuart,” comments Lewis. “He came to site at the beginning of the project to carry out the site survey and then Grant UK’s Design Team specified the system and supplied me with the list of products needed for this project.

“All the wiring and plumbing diagrams had been sent to us from Stuart in advance of the installation and we found the schematics supplied very simple to follow,” continues Lewis. “We also opted for the heat pump setup service something which was free following our product training course at Grant UK’s Training Academy. Jess York, one of Grant UK’s Field Service Engineers, came to site to assist with the set up and commissioning, a service which gave us real peace of mind with our first heat pump installation.”

The installation of the Grant heat pump and renewable heating system was completed in August 2022, providing the barn and its owners with a reliable, low carbon heating system.
