The Grant WinterSOL is an accessory within the Solar Thermal range that provides a fully heated cylinder during times when there is low solar gain, helping a solar thermal system satisfy a home's hot water demand even in the winter months.
During the winter months, there may not be sufficient solar gain to fully heat the hot water cylinder, so the Grant WinterSOL is designed to provide a fully heated cylinder of hot water during times when there may not be sufficient solar gain. A homeowner can operate a simple summer/winter switch which will allow the main heat source (a boiler for example) to heat the full contents of the cylinder when solar gain is limited. Then, when solar gain is restored, the switch is set back to summer mode for maximum efficiency using the solar thermal system.
When planning the addition of a solar thermal system to your home, there are lots of different factors that need to be considered. These include the location and orientation of the property as well as the angle of the roof. Any shading close to the property also needs to be thought of in case it covers the collectors. The collector array, cylinder size, pipework arrangements and the hot water requirements of the household must also be factored in to ensure that the size and design of the solar heating system will be effective.
